Converse
has announced the update one of its most popular models. The brand’s
original Weapon design has been given five new looks as part of a more
expansive collection, due for release later this summer.
Featuring a single Patchwork style alongside two further double packs, the range builds on the success enjoyed in the 1980s when it was worn by the likes of Magic Johnson.
The Patchwork trainer is made up by a number of bold-coloured mesh panels. Meanwhile, the Ray Pack focuses on dark and light grey jersey with paint splatter details. Finally, the Reflective Mesh Pack, available in purple and red, uses a material that throws light back.
All three are linked by the use of an internal memory foam, as well as a plush marbled EVA sockliner, and a single retail price of £85.
Chris Law, design director at the brand, says the original design has been “refined and re-mastered…while preserving the sneaker’s iconic elements.”
Law added he hopes the collection builds momentum for other upcoming plans.
Last year John Varvatos took on the basketball classic, giving it a worn look, complete with side zip.
The news comes in the same week as the official launch party for the brand’s 10-week Cons project, which takes place tonight.
Based in Peckham, the initiative aims to offer talks, workshops and exhibitions to young creative talent.
Converse’s exclusive collection will launch throughout the summer before a larger Converse Cons sneaker range drops in August.
The Patchwork trainer will be available from 13 June, with the Ray and Reflective Mesh Pack following on 11 July and 9 August. All three will be available from Converse stores globally.
