3 Key Men’s Hairstyles For Spring/Summer 2014

The start of any new season often brings with it a period of reflection and evaluation, and this is particularly true during the transition to the warmer months of the year.
With spring synonymous with terms such as rebirth, renewal and resurrection, there has never been a better time to freshen up your wardrobe or personal style. And one of the easiest, quickest and most dramatic alterations you can make to your current image is trying a new haircut.
With this in mind, I’m going to break down three of Hooka’s most requested hairstyles for spring/summer 2014, in an effort to help inspire your new cut…
1. The Short Quiff
AKA the ‘Ryan Gosling Quiff’, we’ve seen many modern reworks of this classic haircut over the past few years, but the core shape is still proving to be very popular with our customers.
The biggest change I’ve noticed is the variation in length through the back and sides. Some men are choosing to expose the scalp by having their hair clippered extremely tight, producing an exaggerated or disconnected look, while others are keeping slightly more length and opting for a slick finish with all the hair styled off the face.
But which way is best for you? Well, it’s important to take your face shape into account. If you have a round or square looking face then having too much length through the sides can make it appear wider that it is. On the flip side, if your face is long or diamond shaped then you may look better with length through the sides to help balance your proportions.
If in doubt, ask your stylist for their professional opinion – this is a style than can suit ANY face shape. Don’t forget that tight back and sides will also need maintaining every couple of weeks in order to keep the cut looking sharp.

Recommended Products
Your choice of styling product can dramatically alter the aesthetic of this cut. If you usually opt for a dry, matte effect, why not consider a pomade or cream this season? High shine products will help add a classic gentlemanly feel to the hairstyle, giving your look a refined edge.
Similarly, if you usually keep your hairstyle short, neat and slick, consider opting for a paste or clay and styling it in a slightly more dishevelled way – it will instantly add a touch of nonchalance to your traditionally straight-laced look.
Wet: American Crew Superglue, Kevin Murphy Supergoo
Dry: American Crew Defining Paste, Bangstyle Clay
