Luis Suarez suffers on the bench as Uruguay fall to shock World Cup defeat against Costa Rica

Luis Suarez was fit enough to be named on the bench but devastated not to be used in Uruguay's shock loss to Costa Rica in their World Cup group D opener.
The Liverpool star, one of the world's form strikers before he required minor knee surgery a month out from Brazil, was left languishing on the sideline as his side fell 3-1 in a major upset.
When Oscar Duarte's header gave Costa Rica a surprise 2-1 lead from a set piece, Suarez was soon in motion up and down the sideline with coach Oscar Tabarez's next move seeming a formality.

Two substitutes came after 60 minutes with Diego Forlan and Walter Gargano removed from the action, but for them came Nicolas Lodeiro and Alvaro Gonzalez. Not Suarez, as the Premier League's golden boot winner was left to languish helplessly in a brown bib.
Uruguay made their final seap on 77 minutes, but again Suarez was unmoved. Abel Hernandez was on for Cristian Rodriguez.
Tabarez said Suarez was in good enough condition to play.
'Suarez is fit. If he wasn’t he wouldn’t have been on the bench,' the coach said.
'He has gone through the phases we have foreseen and we will see what happens now. He is fundamental to us. We know this. We have four days before the England game so we will see if there is a possibility he may play.'
Limbering up: Suarez went through the pre-match preparations with his team-mates
