DIY Decorative Chrysanthemum Mirror!

Have you ever seen a Chrysanthemums flower? They are so pretty with varying gradient colors on their petals. You will find them in different color combinations. The inner circle contains the darkest color and it fades though the outer petals. If you are planning to have something at your home with the design of this beautiful flower, you can try making this amazing and decorative Chrysanthemum mirror only with plastic spoons.
You can use this mirror for decoration on your hallway or for outdoor events. You can choose any of your favorite color and then choose the right tones to give it a gradient effect. You might not get a perfect shape on the first attempt so you can try in on small shapes to begin with. When you can ensure that you can do the small shape perfectly, then you can go for a large one with more materials.
To make a large project, you will need six packages of plastic spoons, a scissor to cut the spoons. You can look for cheapest spoons as you are going to need many of them. You have to cut the spoons to keep the handles apart so that you can use it for the forms of this flower. You will need two MDF wreath forms among which one has to be 18-inch and another one should be 12-inch form.
You have to place these wreath forms and attach them by using hot glue. You can use some of the spoon handles to balance the shape and stick them with the glue to keep it in a proper shape. Next, you have to flip it over with the spoon handles on the bottom. The gap between the wreath forms have to be filled so you will need a thick paper and hot glue to attach it to the gap.
Now when the base is ready, you can start to attach the spoons with the hot glue. Start from the edge by selecting a point and then keep placing the spoons one after one to give it a perfect round shape. You will need to keep enough space in the middle of each spoon so that the next layer of spoons can be placed without having overlap.
Keep attaching the spoons in layers after layers. You have to be very careful when you are doing the final row of spoons where you might end up with extra space or not enough space to place the last spoon. If you follow the placing of the spoons as you have started from the beginning, you will have a perfect ending with the inner ring.
After placing the spoons, if you see there any edge of wreath form is showing; you can use a scissor to cut the edges very carefully. When you are done with attaching the spoons, you will need to apply several thin coats of primer on it. Next you will have to apply couple of coats of paint. If you are intending to paint the petals individually with a paint brush, then you can skip this part.
But having a coating of spray paint will make ensure you that it already has a layer of color on it. Now you have to make the changes to the color of the petals by applying a dark shade on the inner ring. You can use Folk Art acrylic paint in Teal for the inner ring. You don’t have to mix it with anything and can apply directly to the spoons.
You will also need to color the backside of the spoons on the first row because these spoons will be reflected in the mirror. To make a lighter shade, you can mix a little bit of white paint with the teal and apply this color on the subsequent ring and it will make a gradually lighter color on the adjacent ring. You can increase the amount of white paint with the teal for each subsequent ring.
Use a hot glue gun to attach a round mirror to the back of this form when you will see that all the paint has become dry. You will need something attached to the back of this form so that it can hang on from somewhere. A loop of jute twine can be added to complete this task. Now as you have already made this chrysanthemum mirror, all you are going to need is a perfect place to place it on!
